Hey guys!

After a long year of school and summer, I finally get a chance to review the first ever game pack for The Sims 4! Please take note that I may not review all future game packs due to school and I was lucky to run across this during the end of summer! Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this review and hope this helps you decide if you want to purchase it or not!

New to the Sims franchise are Game Packs, which is an in-between of a Stuff Pack and an Expansion Pack.  Players can only purchase this new game pack through the origin store or retailers for $20 and it is ONLY A DIGITAL COPY. There are no simpoints involved and it is a direct-cash payment. Taking note that not everyone will pay $20 as there will be some countries that will pay a bit more or less for this game pack.  I do actually like the idea and concept of selling this type of pack as it adds more gameplay and costs the same as a Sims 3 Stuff Pack (which normally brings only objects/clothing).

Included in this game pack are approximately 91 CAS content, 101 Build/Buy Content (Including 8 interact-able objects), 6 Styled Rooms, a new Herbalism skill, one new aspiration and trait, 5 new traits, additions to the handiness skill, new collectibles (5 fish, 10 herbs, 21 insects), 10 new recipes, 13 herbal remedies, a new world with 7 lots (one is hidden) and brand new gameplay by the game itself.

I find the pricing of this game play pretty fair as it's the same price as a stuff pack, but you're getting much more than what a stuff pack would give you. You actually get gameplay from content (even more than a single premium content item sold in The Sims 3 Store) and you get to actually enjoy something out of this game pack. Honestly, from someone who hasn't fully invested into The Sims 4 and still on The Sims 3, this is a good purchase and a step forward towards how a game should be treated when adding content (especially the free updates Simgurus *wink wink*).

Game Description
New surprises await your Sims out in the wilderness. Explore the all-new destination of Granite Falls, where your Sims can go camping, sing songs or tell ghost stories around the campfire, and enjoy all sorts of new activities!

Explore the All-new Destination of Granite Falls. Your Sims can escape from their everyday lives into the pine-filled air of Granite Falls. Lay back for a night of stargazing and let your Sims’ imaginations run wild, or join a game of horseshoes to unwind with some friendly competition. Alternatively, find out what adventure awaits within the nearby bramble patch. There are tons of things to do in Granite Falls!

Set Up the Perfect Camp. No camping trip is complete without the proper supplies. Be sure to outfit your Sims with a tent and new hiking gear. Treat your Sims to some roasted marshmallows and share fireside stories of adventure, wonder, and fright with the gang.

Create Exotic Potions as an Herbalist. Build your Sim’s herbalism skill to create a variety of useful potions, ranging from insect repellant to a concoction that can help soothe a tense Sim. This new skill will be useful to help Sims identify which wild plants are edible or poisonous.

New World: Granite Falls

Introduced with this game pack is a brand new world that is considered a vacation destination for your sims! This world contains 6 additional lots, a secret hidden lot, and a lot of world-like gameplay outside of the lots. The world has a beautiful scenery and a clean and crisp outdoor-look introduced to the Sims 3 that is for sure a nice addition to your game. With it being a game pack, it was worth the price to add such a new world. Sadly, I do wish there were more lots when more worlds are introduced, it seems like with how the game's base system works, these worlds are pretty much "Town's" or "Neighborhoods" with "Sub-Hoods" that contains a couple of lots, compared to what the Sims 3 introduced.

There are two areas to explore in the main part of Granite Falls, and a Secret Neighborhood related to a hermit who lives in the forest.

In order to unlock the hermit, one must enter the tunnel found north of the Granite Falls Forest and must go through a series of "events" in the tunnel in order to reach this new secret area.

Below are the images taken in the world. and the different lots and information.

New Aspirations and Traits
A new Aspiration that comes with this game pack is the Outdoor Enthusiast aspiration, which a Sim can choose a path that utilizes the Herbalism Skill and completing different milestones associated with the outdoors.  Included in this Aspiration is the additional Survivalist Trait.

New Gameplay

There is quite a bit of new gameplay added in this pack and the main type of gameplay introduced is going on a vacation.  This is where sims can go on their phone or computer and go on vacation by themselves or with other Sims. Once you enter Granite Falls, you can pick a Residential Lot to rent for a particular amount of days, and start right away on your vacationing. You'll meet with a Park Ranger and also utilize new world objects with your vacationing needs such as a Ranger Station and a Community Bathroom Area. If you really want to immerse yourself and not resort to using a phone to travel, you can also find a sign that has options for you to travel and get to certain places. Other forms of gameplay include being able to stargaze/cloudgaze, interactions using a Bear Costume, Social Events, and even learning new Handiness additions. More gameplay information will not be mentioned in this review as this is supposed to summarize a bit what this gamepack has to offer and you'll have to dive into the game itself to enjoy the experience offered.

New Skill: Herbalism
A new skill is also included in this pack as it introduces the Herbalism Skill.  This skill is nature-oriented and increasing one's Gardening Skill will also help improve this skill. Advancing in this skill unlocks new recipes and also identifying new herbs.

As one increases their Herbalism Skill, one can create Herbal Remedies (which are elixir-type potions). In order to make Herbal Remedies, one must use the outdoor grills.

Buy Mode Content
Just a couple of notes regarding the buy mode content as there are tons of positives included in every one of the objects:
  • Each object has their own personal description, which is pretty awesome and I'm glad we did not get the generic set information in each item.
  • Some of the Buy Mode Objects have their own gameplay itself, aka "Premium Content" you could say.
  • They are not CASTable and there are only a few color styles for each of the objects, which does limit decorating with other objects outside of this pack (sadly).
  • There are objects that range from furniture to decor and I feel like sometimes decorating with just these objects doesn't feel empty.
  • There are some buy mode content that must be unlocked in order to use them.

Overall Review

10/10 - Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with this pack as it's $20 for tons of objects and clothing, additional gameplay that isn't tied to just objects, AND a brand new world.  There is so much to do in Granite Falls and so many things to do with this game pack and honestly this is worth the money, and if you want to hold off for a future sale, definitely worth it if you plan on getting it at a sale price.
